Ingredients for brownies

  • Citrus brownie base is whole grain wheat flour. For a gluten-free brownie, use oatmeal. But then you get a different taste of the dessert.
  • Another important ingredient is cacao. It will give the dessert a magical taste.
  • The sweetener in the recipe is coconut sugar. You use what you like.
  • Water as liquid for making brownies. You can use vegetable milk instead of water. Oat milk will do. How to cook it, see here.
  • You will also need eggs. They will bind the dough.
  • There is oil in the recipe. I used butter and refined coconut oil. You can take both or one.
  • Vanilla extract adds flavor.
  • And of course, don’t forget about citrus fruits. These are lemon zest, a few drops of orange oil (optional) and fresh tangerine.

How to make a citrus brownie

Turn the oven on at 170 ° C / 340 ° F. Prepare the mold before kneading the dough. I have a square shape 20 x 20 cm. I will cover the bottom and walls with parchment.

The oven is heating up. The form has been prepared.

Knead the brownie dough in one container. First, melt the butter and coconut oil. Add water, eggs, vanilla extract, coconut sugar to it and mix with a whisk.

Add whole grain flour and cacao to the resulting mass. Add grated lemon zest and a few drops of orange oil (optional).

It remains to add tangerine to the dough. Peel the tangerine. Cut the slices into 1 cm pieces. Stir two-thirds of the tangerine into the dough. Garnish the brownie with the rest before baking.

Put the finished dough into a mold. Decorate the top with pieces of tangerine. We put the form in the oven for 20 – 25 minutes. We check the readiness with a toothpick. There should be some dough on it.

If brownie is dry, it will be hard.

When ready, remove the brownie with tracing paper from the mold and cool on a wire rack to room temperature.
